PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, ORGANIZATIONAL TRUST, AND WORK ENGAGEMENT
A STUDY IN THE METROPOLITAN MESOREGION OF BELO HORIZONTE
Abstract
This research aimed to analyse the relationship between the professional development opportunities provided by organizations to their employees, organizational trust, and engagement at work. As a research method, an online survey was conducted with a sample of 390 workers residents of the Metropolitan Mesoregion of Belo Horizonte, State of Minas Gerais. The collected data were analysed using the structural equation modeling technique. Based on the results obtained, it was found that the adoption of practices that support and promote the development of employees increases the trust that they place in the organization and the engagement they present in their work activities. Furthermore, it was concluded that organizational trust increases employee engagement. Thereby, it is observed that the professional development opportunities offered to employees maintain a direct relationship with the engagement they present at work and an indirect relationship, mediated by organizational trust, which reinforces the relevance of maintaining an organizational policy centred on human development.
