The article sought to establish, in the pre- and post-pandemic period, the relationship between aversion to failure, skills, knowledge and level of education. Public data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) was used to develop a quantitative survey. The aim was to compare the relationship between intentions to start a new business and fear of failure among Brazilian citizens in 2019 and 2020. Following the hypothetical-deductive method, four research hypotheses were constructed. Spearman correlation and ANOVA statistical methods were used to corroborate or refute the hypotheses. The findings indicated that individuals with more skills and knowledge were less influenced by the fear of failure when setting up a business, and vice versa. Thus, a lower fear of failure is correlated with greater knowledge and skills. In this sense, it was found that the higher the level of education, the lower the fear of failure in entrepreneurship. The data allowed for a comparison between 2019 and 2020, the latter being the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.
