IDENTIFYING ITINERARIES, CONCEPTUAL STRUCTURE AND (RE)DESIGNING NEW PATHS ABOUT HUMOR IN THE WORKPLACE
Keywords:
Humor in the workplace, Humor in organizations, Humor as an organizational toolAbstract
This study aimed to characterize the state of the art and identify the underlying conceptual structure of the phenomenon of humor in the workplace. To this end, a systematic literature review was carried out using the Web of Science database. The results revealed that the conceptual structure of the theme is conceived by investigations of the types of humor, measuring instrument, uses of humor and its effects on organizations. Furthermore, the main uses of humor refer to: protection against abusive supervision, expression of creativity and critical thinking, direct and indirect communication through sarcasm, relieving stress and tensions and encouraging cooperative work. From the research itineraries, gaps in the existing literature were found that inspired the creation of a research agenda. This review presents an overview that can help managers, workers and organizations understand the strategic relevance of humor in the work context. It is expected that the topic will become an issue on research agendas within the scope of People Management and Organizational Behavior.
