DEATHS, QUARANTINE AND VACCINATION
ANALYSIS OF THE CONSEQUENCES OF COVID-19 ON THE RETURN ON THE SHARES OF BRAZILIAN COMPANIES
Keywords:
Covid, Retorno, PandemiaAbstract
This article aimed to analyze the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on stock returns in the Brazilian stock market, considering the impact of the number of cases, deaths, quarantine and vaccination. Using panel regressions for the period from 26/02/2020 to 30/06/2022, the results indicated that the implementation of restrictive measures, such as partial lockdown, positively influenced returns in the financial market. In contrast to international studies, however, variations in the number of cases and deaths used to measure COVID-19 and the progress of vaccination did not have a statistically significant influence on returns in the financial market. The main contribution of the research lies in demonstrating the complexity of market reactions to the pandemic, showing that, despite the challenges, the application of restrictive measures may be one of the factors for restoring investor confidence.
