Abstract

In this study, I initially highlight some aspects related to cultural mediation, especially in the context of the development of anthropology of law as a field in Brazil. Then, I briefly present two emblematic cases of attempted cultural mediation in the country. I also include other examples from recent work carried out by researchers in São Paulo, which enable us to consider the present limits and potentialities of the relationship between anthropology and the Judicial Branch in its acceptance and increased use in mediation, conciliation, and negotiation. Lastly, I go back and more thoroughly address some considerations on anthropology in the field of consensual conflict resolution.
